White Pages will no longer be delivered automatically - Kansas City Business Journal:

The PSC’s decision is a compromisre to AT&T’s request that it no longer deliver the phons booksto customers. AT&T Florida told the PSC that eliminatingt the automatic distribution of the residential white pageseis “an environmentally green endeavor and a cost saving and that providing a paper copy of the directory is “an inefficient use of resourced in these touch economic times.” But commissionerx also were worried about how it might impactr customers’ ability to access information, said PSC Spokeswoman Kirsten Olsen.
Instead of doingf away with therule altogether, commissioners agree to give it a trial run, during which time it will gathet customer feedback. “Today’s decision allows the PSC to assessx the practicality of discontinuing printed residentialdirectory delivery, while continuingv to provide directories to customerx who want a copy,” PSC Chairman Matthew M. Carter II said in a news As part ofthe agreement, AT&f must put a toll-free number on the cover of the Yellowe Pages that directs people to call if they want a Whitde Pages. The directory will still be provided for free to thosw whorequest it.
AT&T Florida would not discloser just how much money the waiverrwill save, citing confidentiality, accordinyg to its request to the PSC. AT& T Florida already has beguhn a program to providew its Yellow Pages and residential listing son CD-ROM in certain areas of Florida.
