Michael Easley's The trustees eliminated Easley'sd contract citing it was in the best interestf ofthe university.
Also, during the Oblinger handed over his letterof Oblinger, who has been at NCSU for 23 years, says he intends to return to UNC Charlotte Chancellor Emeritus Jim an aeronautical and mechanicapl engineer who taught at NCSU early in his career, has agreecd to serve as interim chancellor. Oblingee is the third person to resighn from the leadership of the university as a resulft of theEasley brouhaha. and Board Chairmann McQueen Campbell resignedlast month. NCSU hired Easley, wife of then-Gov. Mike in 2005 for a $90,000-a-yearr job managing a speakers' series.
She was givenb a raise, to $170,0000, last year to, in addition to overseeing the speakers' series, manage creatiobn of an academic center for law enforcement andfirst responders. Her contracft calls for her to bepaid $850,000 over five years. Questionss have been raised over whether a friend and supporter offormer Gov. Easley, arrangedf the hiring as a rewarr for receivingstate contracts. The U.S. Attorney’a office has subpoenaed documents relatedto Easley’s hiring as part of its investigation into the former governor.
